Overview

The first text designed specifically with clinical practitioners in mind, including neuroradiologists, radiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and clinical psychologists, Functional Neuroimaging demonstrates the clinical application and utilization of functional neuroradiology for early diagnosis, neurological decision-making, and assessing response to cancer therapy. Edited by the Founding President of American Society of Functional Neuroradiology, this guide expertly describes the incorporation of this technology into clinical practice, and showcases high-quality color images depicting the function and mechanisms of the brain.

Functional Neuroimaging:

  • helps clinicians incorporate functional neuroradiology into their practice
  • contains 320 intricate, full-color figures comprising the anatomy and function of the brain
  • depicts current methods for imaging the central nervous system, as well as cutting-edge approaches for the imaging of brain function
  • shows new advancements in functional brain imaging to benefit the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients

About the Author, Holodny Andrei I Staff

ANDREI I. HOLODNY is Professor of Radiology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Attending Neuroradiologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York, USA. He is the Chief of the Neuroradiology Section and Director of the Functional MRI Laboratory at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Dr. Holodny is the Founding President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology and past-President of the Eastern Neuroradiological Society. Dr. Holodny’s studies concentrate principally on functional imaging of central nervous system tumors including blood oxygen level dependent functional MRI and diffusion tractography.

Editorials

From The Critics

Reviewer: Noah Emerson, D.O.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This book provides a complete basis for functional magnetic resonance imaging, ranging from the physics behind image acquisition to the anatomic/pathologic basis for interpretation.
Purpose: As functional magnetic imaging becomes more technically feasible, the need for a reference book becomes more essential. Through a myriad of examples, diagrams, and descriptions, this book more than meets the needs of clinical practice.
Audience: With such a broad basis, this book functions as a guide for radiologists and neurologists, as well as an introductory book for basic scientists. The editor's vast experience and knowledge is apparent throughout the book.
Features: The book covers functional MRI from concept to interpretation, providing anatomic and pathologic examples and images to not only familiarize readers with the basics of how fMRI works, but also to provide a reference for image interpretation. The sections on diffusion, perfusion, and diffusion tensor imaging, which also help in bringing advanced neuroradiology imaging to the fore, are an added bonus.
Assessment: Functional MRI is at the forefront of neuroradiology imaging. The editor and the accomplished authors provide a readable resource for clinical practice. This small book is geared for practitioners and image interpretation, not basic scientists. What the book lacks in size, it makes up for in substance.
