Raising money is not always easy for children, but this book explains why it is done and how to do it. An inviting front cover shows children participating in a small fund-raising event. As in other books from this "Money" series, the book's content is summed up in the first chapter. Fund-raising is defined as a way of collecting money to "improve the lives of people and animals." Terms to know are highlighted in bold and defined in the glossary. Readers may be familiar with some of the terms and will learn to understand more terms that are explained well. Some of the terms include campaigns, donations, products, welfare, famine, and humanitarian aid. Readers can learn about the usefulness of publicity for raising money; local, national, and international fundraising; both simple and complex ways to raise funds; and how to share funds. Young readers may not be able to grasp all the material without adult help, but bright photos, captions, and "Info-plus" sidebars allow young readers to easily identify what is happening. This book would be useful as a supplement to math, social studies, history, and even English lessons.
