Children's Literature -
Counting is an integral part of this reprint of Margaret Hillert's original, simplified fairy tale series. One, two, three, one two three. Children will be reading this simple text with almost no introduction or assistance. Today's children may find the sparse text and traditional illustrations a bit hard to follow, but it does give young readers a chance to practice their reading skills with a limited vocabulary text. Because of these limitations, I do not recommend this book for pleasure reading but for in-class practice with sight word reading. The book lists forty sight words used throughout the text which can easily be incorporated into sight word instruction with the Dolch 220 list or other popular sight word records. Literacy consultant Shannon Cannon has added activities teachers may find helpful as extensions of the story to emphasize the letter name and sound of U, as well as the concept of shared reading.Book Details
