Gr 1-3 While the information in this book is accurate, the text and illustrations may confuse young readers. Simont's beautiful illustrations are not as informative as they need to be: glaciers look like white rivers and submerged icebergs look like shadows in the water. The content is minimal, telling children only that there was an ice age, that snow remains on mountain tops and at the poles all year round as it did in the ice age, and that glaciers form hills and valleys as they carry rocks along on their way to the sea. The book concludes with a pleasant but not particularly informative summer canoeing scene, showing rolling hills that were made by glaciers.
