School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1-Brief, accessible books on emotions. Glad concerns what makes the narrator happy-getting a good grade, having a friend visit, helping mom with chores, etc. Angry focuses on how children feel when people are angry at them as well as when they are angry at others. "Mom gets angry if I spill my drink-" and "I get angry too-when no one listens to what I say-." The cover shot is reproduced twice in each book. Many of the photos (all are of Caucasian people) seem posed and fake. However, the biggest problem with these titles is the forced rhyming text. "I feel so glad when my soccer team wins-and I also feel glad when my little sis grins." Joy Berry's Let's Talk about Feeling Angry (Scholastic, 1996) offers similar sentiments without the saccharine verse.-Anne Chapman Callaghan, Racine Public Library, WI Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
