Claire Rudolph Murphy based Gold Rush Winter on the true story of Klondy Nelson, an Alaskan gold-miner’s daughter. Ms. Murphy lived for 24 years in Alaska and has written extensively about the state and its people and history. The author lives in Spokane, WA.
