K-Gr 5-- Readers will be able to recycle their newspapers directly into creative masterpieces through the clear directions provided in this craft activity book. Basic directions and techniques are given at the beginning and are referred to throughout. Utilizing basic supplies and a modicum of imagination, even the youngest children will be able to make items such as cut-out borders (a variation on the paperdoll theme), turkeys with curled feathers, and more. Older children will be challenged to make marionettes or holiday decorations such as a Thanksgiving cornucopia. Black-and-white line drawings accompany and clarify the directions, and full-color photographic inserts show the completed projects. While this is an informative and useful craft book, neither the photos of the children nor the crafts themselves recognize the ethnic diversity of this nation. Teachers will find activities that can expand the curriculum; librarians looking for displays and simple ideas will enjoy the ease with which these directions can be completed. --Carole D. Fiore, S tate Library of Florida, Tallahassee
