An introduction to growing crystals, discussing the different types of crystals and how they are made.

Gr 2-4-Well-reproduced color photographs and clear, concise writing introduce the concept. Careful explanations and diagrams illustrate the regular, orderly arrangement of atoms that form crystalline shapes. Readers are challenged to identify crystals such as salt, sugar, and snow, and to recognize things that look like crystal and are not, such as glass. The formation of crystals is also discussed. The book concludes with two experiments that include safety precautions. Errors in the final section may hinder those attempting "To Find Out More."
