From its habitat to its near extinction, the Jaguar is described in great detail and shown to be a truly magnificent animal. The author also compares this magnificent cat to other large cats. She has included sources for books and online sites and a word index in the back for more difficult words. Large, colorful photographs show the jaguar in many different poses and situations, clearly making the reader feel as if she is with the animal. One chapter in the book deals with the extinction of the jaguar and shows ways to save this beautiful creature. Other chapters show how the jaguar mates, takes care of its young, and forages for food. One chapter even explains how ancient tribes revered this animal and worshipped it. This is a very informative and beautifully illustrated book about jaguars would be an asset to any animal library and would be great in zoology studies for small children. 2005, Children's Press, Ages 6 to 10.βDebbie West
