Synopsis
Simple text and photographs present the features and behavior of tigers.
Trina Heidt - Children's Literature
Most young children seem to be fascinated with animals. Because of that, beginning readers will surely love to read about tigers in the "Rain Forest Animals" series by Pebble Books. With simple sentences (less than ten words) like "Tigers are big, wild cats. Cats are mammals," beginning readers will become confident in their reading skills while learning words through repetition. They are also learning subject-specific language. Helping with comprehension are the many color photographs of tigers (apparently in the rain forests of Asia), each of which is related to the text on the accompanying page. While basic, this book does provide appropriate introductory knowledge for the intended audience and is a great series for cross-curricular studies in the very early grades (preK-1). Also included are a Words to Know section, Table of Contents, Read More, Internet Sites and Index/Word list. 2003, Pebble Books/Capstone Press, Ages 3 to 6.
