Synopsis
Simple text challenges the reader to find a polar bear, a seal, and a frog hidden in photographs.
Children's Literature
The simple text and photographs describe and show animals who use camouflage for protection. Direct questions on one page are followed by an illustrative photograph on the subsequent page. For example, the question, "where is the frog," has a photograph of green frog sitting on a green lily pad. On the subsequent page, the answer, "here is the frog," is followed by the same photograph with the frog outlined in red. Additional pages show a polar bear and seal camouflaged in their natural habitats. The final photograph will bring a smile as two puppies are shown in a photograph "camouflaged" amid stuffed animals. Young readers can relate well to the difficult word, camouflage, through the title of the book which echoes the game, hide-and-seek. A vocabulary section titled "Words to Remember" completes the book with photographs of each animal with their designations under each picture. This book is part of the "Tough Toddler Books" series, which include Hide-and-Seek Clothes, Hide-and-Seek Food, Hide-and-Seek Toys, Hide-and-Seek Pets, and Hide-and-Seek Kids.
