Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

The cover depicts a square that could be part of a window with inside shutters contrasted with a round plate. Opening the book, the first spread presents a circle and shows a plate full of food. On the plate are two smaller round dishes filled with food. The bottom border has a variety of shapes in various colors. The text consists of two words on a page: for example, circle and plate. As expected a square represents a window, a rectangle a door a triangle is used for part of a roof. There is an oval, diamond and heart to wrap up the lesson. Interestingly there is no heart shape in the running border, so it is not a true recap of all that is presented. The photographs are high quality and printed on crisp white pages. A serviceable introduction to shapes, but not an outstanding book. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
