Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati J.D.

The colorful dinosaurs parading through the pages of this book are sure to tickle the fancy of young children. The illustrator's inimitable style shows off a variety of dinosaurs sporting blue and brown polka dots, stripes, and other fanciful designs. These dinosaurs behave a lot like young readers, which is the point of each rhyme showing dinosaurs in various activities and moods. The simple rhymes are centered on opposites, such as quiet and loud, clean and messy, and up and down. Children will enjoy hearing the rhymes over and over until they have them committed to memory. The oversized board book format includes large lift-the-flaps, which will be easy for small hands to negotiate. Although the rhymes are simple, the names of these dinosaurs are anything but: iguanadon, brachiosaurus, stygimoloch, and anarctosaurus, among others. Dinosaur names are written in small print on each page so that children can find them when they are ready. Reviewer: Jeanne K. Pettenati, J.D.
