Synopsis

Full color, full-page photographs throughout with straightforward and engaging text, the 'I Want to Be...' series is an appealing and engaging introduction to a broad spectrum of occupations.

Children's Literature

Photos of teachers in action along with easy-to-read text makes this book a nice addition to a career collection for early readers. The color photographs depict teachers, primarily elementary teachers, instructing and mentoring students of all colors and races in actual school settings. There are also depictions of teachers working with older students and teachers who work outside schools, such as ballet and music teachers. Each page has a full-color photograph along with one line of text interpreting the picture and explaining what teachers do. Some of the words may be a challenge for beginning readers, but with help, they will be able to read the majority of the twenty-page text. This is part of the "I Want To Be A" series. 2001, Firefly Books, $14.95 and $3.99. Ages 3 to 7. Reviewer: Melissa A. Caudill
