Description: This book contains descriptions and radiographs of the more complex and difficult image-guided procedures in pain management.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an easily referenced collection of example radiographs and descriptions of difficult image-guided blocks usually performed in a full-service pain management practice. Very little has been published in this quickly growing area. The author has met his objective and produced a very useful book.
Audience: Those in the subspecialty of pain management with emphasis on interventional therapy would be the primary audience. Specifically, the audience includes the pain practitioner who is unfamiliar with blocks or has been recently trained in a new block. Additionally, all fellows in pain management could benefit from this book and would use it beyond their training.
Features: The best feature of the book is the collection of numerous high quality radiographs that are outstanding examples of the subject. Additionally, the first two chapters are a superb summary of the pertinent points of fluoroscopy and radiopaque dyes. Photographs and diagrams further reinforce all pertinent points. References are adequate and appropriate. Overall, appearance of the book is above average, whereas the quality of publishing appears to be excellent to outstanding.
Assessment: This is a much-needed book in a very specialized area of pain management. Until this book was written, numerous texts were needed to be referenced for only a portion of this book's contents. I would recommend this book for all pain management specialists.
