This is a comprehensive review of immunohistochemical methods, available reagents, and their use in diagnostic pathology. The book is intended to serve as a reference work, with copious citations of recent and seminal publications. It provides explanations and clear illustrations of basic techniques in immunomicroscopy. Although primarily directed at the practicing surgical pathologist, the text is also a valuable resource for researchers who need to apply immunoenzyme techniques. The number of useful tables and illustrations is enormous, including a comprehensive listing of the leukocyte antigens as clustered by the last international workshop, illustrations of their expression in leukocyte maturation, and their use in the diagnosis of lymphomas. Comprehensive reviews of intermediate filaments and many other tumor markers are included. Common differential diagnoses are discussed in terms of immunoreactivities. When the first edition appeared in 1986, it was the most comprehensive text on the topic of immunohistochemistry. The second edition has been updated with current references, coverage of new antigens, and reviews of new techniques, yet it retains the clear prose and philosophical style of the original.
