Description:This is a marvelous new book (which is actually a version of the classic, The Biochemical Basis of Neuropharmacology, 8th edition, Cooper, Bloom and Roth (Oxford University Press, 2003)) covering "the principles by which the effects of drugs on behaviors, as well as on cells and circuits, are determined." Written and edited by giants in neuroscience, this book is a terrific addition to the medical literature.
Purpose:After the decision not to revise the eighth edition of Cooper, Bloom and Roth, the editors had a change of heart, but decided to relinquish "a lot of the academic minutiae" and produce this introductory textbook that focuses on "the study of drugs that affect the cells and circuits of the brain, and the brain's behavioral, emotional, and cognitive operations.
Audience:The targeted audience includes medical students as well as graduate students, house officers, and fellows.
