About the Author, William Watson Purkey

William Watson Purkey is a Professor of Counselor Education at the University of North Carolina at Greenboro. He is an award-winning teacher, and is the co-founder of the International Alliance for Invitational Education, and organization that currently enrolls more than 1000 members. He recently received the Board of Governors Award of Excellence.

John M. Novak is Professor of Education and Chair of Graduate Studies in Education at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He holds a doctorate from the University of Florida. His research interests are self-concept approaches to teaching and learning, perceptual psychologies applied to education, and John Dewey's philosophy. He has delivered keynote addresses on six continents and has spoken to groups north of the Arctic Circle and in the southern part of New Zealand.
