Most people know that J. K. Rowling is the author of the successful Harry Potter books, but not many people know about her personal life. J. K. Rowling is a very private person. It is known that she was born as Joanne Rowling in 1965 near Bristol, England. Even as a young girl she enjoyed writing. When Joanne was only fifteen years old, her mother died from multiple sclerosis. Later, as a divorced young woman, Joanne struggled to financially support herself and her young daughter. These difficult periods influenced Joanne and her writing. Using the pen name of J. K. Rowling, the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997 in England and six more Harry Potter books followed in the enormously popular series. At present, J. K. is writing a fairy tale book for young children. This brief biography summarizes the life of this extremely successful and famous author. There are one to two paragraphs on each page and an accompanying photograph on the opposite page. This book is a great introduction to biographies for young readers. It is part of the "Buddy Biographies" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
