Children's Literature

Jigsaw Jones shares his tips of the detective trade in a book. In his investigative guide, there are numerous mystery-solving tips and tricks of the trade for the junior sleuth. Jigsaw introduces the detective lingo, tools of the trade, and case notebook format. There are some opportunities to try out the investigative tips, such as testing your observational skills or matching fingerprints. Codes or secret messages have a large part in the book; the substitution code, weather code, and Morse code are some of the many methods that Jigsaw demonstrates for coding a top secret note for your detective partner. Along with the ways to code a message, there are ways to practice decoding messages in the book. Also, Jigsaw tells how to make messages with invisible ink and how to read the invisible notes. References are made to the "Jigsaw Jones Mystery" series in relation to the detecting tips. Following the section of tips, there are a few short Jigsaw Jones mysteries or cases for the junior detective to exercise his or her sleuthing skills.
