School Library Journal

ea. vol: diags. 32p. photogs. glossary. index. (Picture Library Series). Watts. Sept. 1985. PLB $9.40. Gr 2-4 The visuals in these books are much better than the text. Large type, clearly labeled diagrams and up-to-date color photographs give this series eye-appeal. The amount of detail in the text for each concept is limited, though, with more than half of each page devoted to photographs. Comparable titles in ``The Electronic Revolution'' series (McKie's Lasers 1983 and Irvine's Satellites and Computers 1984, both Watts) provide more background information on each topic and have more diagrams and drawings. These titles do have tables of contents and good indexes, but the number of glossary entries are minimal (there is no entry under hologram or holography).Eunice Weech, M. L.
