Description:This book focuses on recent developments in the field of learning disabilities in the U. K. and elsewhere. Each chapter in this fourth edition is completely revised. The previous edition was published in 1999.
Purpose:The purpose is to assist professionals who work with the population with learning disabilities by providing them with a sufficient knowledge base and to provide a textbook that is accessible enough to attract a wide readership, yet substantial enough to support wide range of programs of study. It is a much needed resource and, overall, meets its objectives.
Audience:Nurses, social workers, therapists, students of different professional and academic background, community case managers, specialist practitioners, and, last but not the least, parents and family members of this population.
Features:The book starts with history, nature and different aspects of learning disabilities. It then outlines and gives details about the available services and support systems including the different modes and methods to help this population attain independence, choice, and inclusion in the community. Each chapter starts with the highlights and then outlines key issues discussed in the chapter. Different case illustrations emphasize the content. Readers? activities provide insightful questions for further study. There are extensive references and multiple Web site addresses for professional workers and families.
