School Library Journal

Gr 4-8Attractive books that have excellent maps, good-quality reproductions and photos, and accurate texts. The vocabulary is deceptively sophisticated, given the short length of these titles. The writing is straightforward and informative. Both titles begin by chronicling historical background and events leading up to the respective battle, followed by an account of the event itself, the major players, and the outcome. The presentations conclude with a discussion of the battlefield site as it is today, including museums, memorials, tourist services, etc. Related Web sites and other sources, as well as a chronology, are included, as is information that may date quickly: hours, fees, phone numbers, etc. Adequate productions where needed.Rosie Peasley, Empire Union School District, Modesto, CA
