Children's Literature
The pages look like selections of modern art that might be hanging in a gallery nearby. The text urges kids to look and talk about what they see. There are squares and rectangles in different colors, as well as lines and squiggles that dance across the pages. There are questions about colors and directions. One page reminds me of the work of Eric Carle and another is reminiscent of the work of Brian Wildsmith; however, Teis' work is more abstract. Counting the drips on the last page would be impossible for any toddler and a challenge for an adult. This book is probably not a first choice, but it is a book that may appeal to some kids and encourage them to look at modern art with a more appreciative eye. 2005, Star Bright Books, Ages 4 to 7.βMarilyn Courtot
