Children's Literature

Mandy and Mimi have been friends since they were babies, and have visited the museum together since they were in strollers. But now they are big girls, and venture off alone to visit the new exhibit--the Mummies! Unfortunately, they are a little confused, as the exhibit does not open for another week. Undaunted, they venture inside, and Mimi wraps Mandy with the sample supplied for that purpose. The director comes by leading a tour, and, of course, the girls get caught. He devises a great plan to use them to help publicize the opening, and the story has a happy ending. There are a lot of facts about mummies included in this charming story for readers beginning to tackle chapter books (the publisher states the reading level is 2.4) and its price makes it a sure-fire winner on all counts! 1999 (orig. 1985), Puffin Books, Ages 6 to 9, $3.99.
