Children's Literature
Caring for other people is an important principle for children to learn and understand. The story in this picture book is about an eight-year-old girl who is afraid of bugs, but despite her anxiety, decides to help a grieving neighbor to plant a flower garden. The book does a good job of explaining in terms that children will understand the importance of helping other people. The examples that are used in the book are all things that young children can start to do. This book comes from "The Way I Act" books that are designed to teach principles of character to young children. The cover does not jump out as a book that will grab the attention of a child, however, the story inside is well worth reading. The illustrations are simple, to match the story line, and young children will enjoy reading the story and learning what they can do to help others.
