Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman

Tia and Jaden check out library books, eat a snack, and wash their hands before reading their books. Tia reads to her little sister but keeps the book out of her reach. Jaden does not tear the pages or fold the corners of his books. They keep the books away from pets and return them or renew them on time. Each action is followed by the refrain in bold print: "He/She/They are using good manners." The book concludes: "When you take care of library books, the books last a long time. Many people in your community will have a chance to read them." The computer-generated colored pictures show large headed children with brown skin. At the end there is a page of "Fun Facts" printed in colored balls. One says: "The world's largest library is the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C." A list of other books to read, websites, and an index are included. This is part of the "Way to Be! Manners" series. Teachers and librarians will enjoy using this book to teach children how to treat library materials. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
