Purpose:The purpose of the book, according to the editor, is to encourage readers to engage in the treatment of those suffering from psychlatr1c disorders, to improve the care of patients, and to inspire research. The editor and authors have succeeded in producing another extremely valuable contribution to the care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
Audience:The intended audience, according to the editors, is clinicians. It would be useful for academic and biologically oriented psychiatrists, family practitioners, internists, geriatricians, neuropsychologists, and trainees in psychiatry, and fellows in neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology, and geriatric psychiatry.
Features:The book features is divided into 29 chapters and seven appendixes. There are numerous useful chapters which cover such topics as the medical evaluation of psychiatric patients, delirium and dementia, OCD, tics and Tourette?s, eating disorders, substance abuse and dependence, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, rape and sexual assault, to name a few. Each chapter contains an additional reading list rather than references. which is the book's only shortcoming. The index is helpful.
