Gr 2-4 An easy-to-read chronological biography. Supporting the text are an array of photographs (mostly in black and white) and full-color pencil sketches. The writing is somewhat choppy, and the information presented is similar to that in earlier works on King for this grade level, but the book does contain a number of appealing features. A chronological list of important dates in Dr. King's life, along with a detailed index are included. The glossary contains short, clear definitions, and the bibliography notes four recent titles. Lacking is any mention of the new national holiday honoring King. Coretta Scott King's role in her husband's public life is not noted at all in the text, although she is shown and identified marching next to him at a civil rights march in one photo. Tom S.
