Synopsis
This series covers the range of math concepts and skills that students are expected to master during second grade. The series moves sequentially through the math curriculum, using practical examples to show how people use math every day in the real world. Each book is leveled to match students' reading skills as they progress through second grade.
Children's Literature
The students in the class find a clue to follow in their classroom. Each time they read a clue they need to use measurement to figure out where the next clue is hidden. This shows the reader that measurement can be used anywhere with any object. Next, the students need to plan a hunt of their own. The class is split in two groups. One group plans measurement clues indoors and one plans measurement clues outdoors. Each group needs to use measurement in each clue. The students then have their classmates figure out the clues. This step by step book is an excellent book for a teacher to show his or her class about different ways to measure. It would be perfect for a classroom planning a treasure hunt like the one in the book. Other than that, there really is not much use for the book. The author wrote the text very well and very clearly; however, there is not a whole much learning involved with the content of the book. This is part of the "Math in our World" series.
