Gr 7 Up-This title tackles the broad arena of medical ethics as a concept and related problems inherent in experimental treatments, genetic engineering and testing, organ transplants, and assisted suicide. Levy presents a balanced account of the principles involved and the dilemmas in prioritizing them. The text is clear and accessible, black-and-white photos and graphics illuminate the points presented, and case studies personalize what could easily be perceived as dry and technical. Over 30 pages of notes, glossaries, suggestions for further reading, and indexing are appended. Robert Snedden's Medical Ethics (RSVP, 1999), which traces the changes in public attitudes over the past century, is somewhat easier to read. Both titles make excellent additions for students interested in these controversial issues.-Mary R. Hofmann, Rivera Middle School, Merced, CA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
