Editorials

From The Critics

Reviewer: Omer Iqbal, MD, FACC, FESC(Loyola University Medical Center)
Description: This update presents comprehensive information on the new methods implemented in the areas of molecular analysis and genome discovery including new methods of DNA analysis using DNA chips and qPCR.
Purpose: The purpose is to build upon the discovery and analysis aspects of the first edition by detailing the ways in which techniques have been further developed or new methods implemented in the areas of molecular analysis and genome discovery.
Audience: The book appears to be written for those working in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. It also will be quite useful for students interested in molecular biology.
Features: Each of the 12 chapters offers an up-to-date analysis of the latest techniques and their use. Following an overview of genotyping, a number of chapters discuss various methods of DNA analysis including use of DNA chips and qPCR. Chapters also discusses various analysis methods, including the use of microfluidic devices, high resolution melt profiling, parallel sequencing systems to analyze DNA on a large scale, and analysis of nucleic acids using aptamers. Additional topics include the advancement of quantum dots, carbon nanotubes, nanoengineering, antibody arrays in proteome profiling, nanotechnology in cancer biomarker discovery, antibody arrays in proteome profiling, multiplex microbead suspension, array-based immunoproteomics, and mass spectrometry.
Assessment: This is the second edition of a unique book that details a variety of the latest techniques implemented in the areas of molecular analysis and genome discovery. It will be of immense value to students, biotechnologists, and scientists in the pharmaceutical industry. This update absolutely justifies replacement of the first edition.
