Synopsis
Introduces such "monsters" as the Yeti, zombies, and the Loch Ness monster, debunking many of these fantastic stories.
Michael Cooper - Children's Literature
Monsters are not real, or are they? This little book explains the facts and myths of several mysterious creatures. These creatures are Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest, Nessie the Loch Ness monster in Scotland, zombies in Haiti, Mothman in West Virginia, and an unnamed swamp monster in Louisiana. This book does not confirm or debunk their existence. Instead, it briefly explains local myths and then describes rational explanations. Curiously, the author describes the creatures as though they are the subjects of movies. Presumably, evoking movies makes a book more interesting. The text is illustrated with photographs and drawings. Monsters is part of the "Unexplained" series. 2005, Lerner, Ages 9 up.
