Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Carole Ann Kenner, DNS, MSN, BSN(Northeastern University Bouve College of Health Sciences)
Description:This pocket-sized book is a quick reference with cartoons to add humor while teaching assessment concepts.
Purpose:The purpose is to help students memorize assessment concepts. It uses visual cues, mnemonic, and memory aids to facilitate quick learning.
Audience:This reference would be great for undergraduate students or anyone who wants to review health assessment. The author is a known expert in teaching/learning principles.
Features:The unique features include the use of funny cartoons and pictures that illustrate types of assessments, including community assessments, physical assessment, and assessment considerations across the lifespan. Cards can be torn out and carried to the clinical setting or used as flash cards. The pediatric assessment sections are very good and include considerations about development and feelings at that stage of life. The section on grief assessment would have been strengthened if cultural and developmental considerations had been included. In the last section about considerations across the lifespan, there should be an additional card on those over 80 with the growing population in their 90s and above.
Assessment:There is no comparable publication on the market. It is a very good addition to any undergraduate student's reference library.
