Overview

The mouse has become a standard laboratory model organism, particularly for the study of hematopoiesis, the immune system, and inflammation. Although laboratories studying stem cells, blood, and blood-forming tissues have assimilated many new molecular diagnostic methods, the identification of cell lineages through classical light microscopic techniques is often poorly understood and practiced. Mouse Hematology presents a concise review of conventional methods for the preparation, enumeration, and microscopic examination of blood and blood-forming tissues of the laboratory mouse. Along with a short laboratory manual featuring detailed protocols, Mouse Hematology includes a DVD of short video demonstrations of the techniques and a poster of blood cell types for easy identification at the microscope. These rapid, inexpensive assessments can save valuable time and resources essential to the design, development, and interpretation of experiments

Editorials

European Journal of Haematology

"‘Mouse Hematology—A Laboratory Manual’ is a wellwritten and timely discussion on the morphology of mouse hematopoietic cells, which continues the strong CSH Press tradition on making concise, easy comprehensible and accessible laboratory manuals. The book fills a gap in the literature on the morphology on murine hematopoietic cells and should be obligatory in every laboratory working on mouse haematopoiesis.”

Veterinary Information Network

"This book was published to fill a void in the knowledge of mouse hematopoiesis and hematological cell morphology. The text is broken down into six chapters which kept me endlessly fascinated from the first page to the last.

One of the most attractive things about this book is the language in which it is written. This language allows the reader to learn the medical and laboratory terminology of hematology through written, pictorial and video examples. There are many beautiful discussions with pictures of the various cell series...

It is...a concise and easy to use volume...For those working strictly in a laboratory or lab animal facility, this book would be a solid five-star acquisition.”
