Overview

Caldecott Honor artist Stephen T. Johnson puts kids in the driver's seat with this irresistible companion to the bestselling My Little Red Toolbox. With sixteen interactive features at their fingertips, eager young drivers will learn just what it takes to get their taxi ready to roll: The mirror needs to be adjusted, the oil needs to be checked, the engine needs to be started . . . and there's lots more to do! As an added bonus, a clock on each page counts down the minutes, introducing the concept of telling time. And with its sturdy construction, this taxi is built to be "driven" again and again. Fasten your seat belt and get ready for fun!

From The Critics

The owner narrates: "I put my key in the ignition to start my little yellow taxi." And so will kids, sliding a cardboard key (that pops like a puzzle piece out of the book's thick pages) into the slot of an "ignition." By using pull tabs and movable pieces, busy hands can also spin the steering wheel, open the hood, and adjust the rearview mirror-a fine day's work for any wannabe cabdriver. (ages 3 to 7)

Children's NOTES NIFTY GIFTS A host of titles would be welcome presents this gift-giving season. My Little Yellow Taxi by Stephen T. Johnson follows the format of his very successful My Little Red Toolbox. Narrated by the cab driver, this informative book boasts sturdy pages from which youngsters can lift the taxi's hood to check the oil, open the glove compartment to peruse the snacks and, best of all, change the sign to "off duty." A clock at the bottom of the page keeps track of the taxi's meter. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich

This 8" high, 11" wide wizard of a book would have to be classified as a toy book, and one that would be irresistible for any small boy. It is quite a heavy book because buried into its thick pages are substantial cardboard tools, such as a gasoline nozzle for filling up the tank, a tire gauge to check the air pressure, and a key to start the motor of the little yellow taxi. In the bottom corner of each page there is a clock face showing the time, starting at 6 o'clock. By 6:10 the taxi will have been checked out and ready to go. There will be ample gas in the tank, oil in the motor, air in the tires, and snacks for the driver in the glove compartment. The seat belt will be snapped and the red flag on the meter ready to be raised for the first customer of the day. The last page holds a sturdy 9" long yellow taxicab to remove and push along the nearest surface. All the removable parts fit snugly into their individual spaces. With a little help from a teacher or parent, this book should prove to be a valuable aid for encouraging young readers to return objects to their proper places.
