Synopsis
Educators from a range of British universities take the curriculum as an indicator to evaluate the success of the Education Reform Act a decade after it took effect. They draw on empirical evidence to investigate whether making the curriculum broad and balanced, and so de-professionalizing teachers, enhances or devalues standards and whether pupils are making more or less progress. The 12 studies are consistent in their findings that the reform has had the opposite effect to that intended. They are not indexed.
