Overview

Nursing Herbal Medicine Handbook leverages the extremely popular and successful NDH brand. The book closely resembles the look and style of NDH, including size, cover, NDH logo, monograph format and logos within each monograph. The Nursing Considerations section is substantial, with a strong focus on drug interaction, drug history, administration and patient teaching information. The focus is on needs of the practicing nurse related to herbal medicines rather than on the medicines themselves. Now that more information and research on herbal remedies exists, this book takes a more practice-oriented than scientific approach to the use of herbs.

For every herb, you'll quickly find:

  • Popular names and common trade names
  • Descriptions of how the herb is supplied
  • Actions and components
  • Common uses
  • Typical dosages and administration routes
  • Adverse reactions listed by body system
  • Interactions categorized by herb-drug, herb-herb, herb-food, and herb-lifestyle
  • Important cautions
  • Nursing considerations
  • Patient-teaching points
You'll also find these key features:
  • A-to-Z organization
  • Alert logos that signal potential dangers
  • Life-threatening adverse reactions highlighted for safety
  • An appendix listing herbs by their uses
  • Continuing education tests
