Beautiful photographs of ocean animals appear on each spread of this board book. Many of the babies are pictured alone, but several shown nurturing parents with their young who act much like their human counterparts. They keep the babies protect their children, teach them what to eat, and how to play. In addition to seeing parallels in the animal kingdom, young children will learn that a baby sea lion is a pup, a baby orca is a calf, baby sea turtles are hatchlings, and baby penguins are chicks. It is an informative, entertaining and very nice presentation of the animal world. 2004, NorthWord, Ages 6 mo. to 3.βMarilyn Courtot
