Overview
Robbins, a retired professor of history at Oregon State University and author of other books on Oregon, attempts to present an evenhanded history of the state, looking both at the positive aspects as well as the "darker side." Beginning with the land and the native culture, Robbins describes Oregon in the context of the arrival of Europeans, immigrants, social, economic and political relations in the nineteenth century, changing times during the twentieth century, including the Depression and World Wars. He explores the history of education and culture, as well as the changing economy of the last few decades. Distributed by the U. of Washington Press.
