Children's Literature - Heather Christensen

For most American school children, St. Patrick's Day is simply that day in the middle of March when everyone has to wear green. Whether learning about "lucky" shamrocks while making a shamrock paper chain, or the legendary pot of gold in a pop-up card, the eight crafts in this book from the Enslow "Paper Craft Fun for Holidays" series are a fun way for students to learn more about this Irish holiday. Using common craft materials like crayons, glue, and all types of paper, students will cut, fold, and glue their way through a variety of green-tinted craft projects. Each project begins with a short paragraph of background information and includes a list of materials and numbered steps. Color photographs accompany each project and show the craft at various levels of completion. At the back of the book, readers will find an index, list of recommended books and websites, and patterns for each of the projects. Crafters will need to enlarge the patterns using a copy machine with that capability (enlargement percentages are included). This book of simple crafts will make a fine addition to libraries with large collections of craft books. Reviewer: Heather Christensen
