Overview

Park managers must draw upon knowledge and skills that are not immediately apparent. This book locates disciplines such as landscape architecture, law enforcement, communications, engineering, personnel management, accounting, and budgeting within the context of recreation administration. McCurdy details the purpose of park systems and the types of areas found within them. He describes accepted policies relative to such problems as the park planning and design process, land acquisition, and both the preservation of original features and the introduction of artificial ones. He concludes with a discussion of the types of people who visit the different kinds of areas within park systems and analyzes the visitor’s use patterns.
