School Library Journal

Gr 3-6This is an important entry in the series as there is not much available on parrots in the wild and many species are already endangered or extinct. An introduction gives basic information on the birds, their habitats, and threats to their survival. The text focuses on eight parrots from different parts of the world and gives a clear picture of the variety of reasons for their serious status and some efforts that have been made to save them. The small locator maps are easier to read than in previous volumes in the series; there are some good current selections in the list for further reading; and addresses of conservation organizations are included. Excellent-quality full-color photographs appear on every page and add a great deal to the presentation. A brief, somewhat dry, addition that will be most useful for reports.Susan Oliver, Hillsborough County Science Library at MOSI, Tampa, FL
