Purpose: The purpose is to set forth all the foundational aspects of exercise physiology. It is important for new students in this field to learn the basics before moving on to more specialized reading. This book covers all the classical areas of the discipline.
Audience: The primary audience is undergraduate students, with a secondary audience of any students new to this area of study. The authors have decades of experience and have hundreds of scientific publications between them.
Features: Every discipline consists of a specific amount of foundational knowledge, and this book covers all the important concepts of exercise physiology such as training adaptations, metabolism, thermoregulation, and exercise and disease. Unique to this book is an interactive study guide for students and a slide bank and test question bank for instructors.
Assessment: This is a good tool for new students in exercise physiology. While not the definitive book, it is good for undergraduates because of its ease of use and the inclusion of a study guide. Because of the enhanced sections on thermoregulation and aging, as well as disease and exercise, this new edition is justified.
