Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Potty training may offer a challenge to any parent and child. This amusing picture book takes a nautical theme and turns the process into a game. Pirates who have moved out of diapers need to go pee-pee or poo-poo—terms commonly used by families. How do they do it? Just like most people except that the pirate potty is all black, and "X" marks the spot. There is even a song to sing while sitting on this fancy pirate potty. Good hygiene is stressed with the use of toilet paper from the treasure chest, a flush, and then a real scrub up with soap and water. The successful pirate earns a gold sticker for his pirate hat. Not only is this young pirate proud of his success, but his parents are equally pleased. The book contains a punch out pirate hat and stickers. There is also a very helpful message and guidance for the parents on the back cover. It is an amusing book and will of course have much more appeal to boys than girls. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
