Gr 1-3-- A look at a day in the life of a pizza maker, Victor Hanna, a man who owns his own pizzeria and loves his work. The simple text, from the pizza man's point of view, is illustrated with large, black-and-white photographs. The effect is that of being taken on a personal tour: getting right next to the big dough-making machine, watching the cheese-shredder, and being almost underneath the whirling dough as it is tossed into the air to be stretched into a pizza. Although this is a straightforward account, the pizza maker's individuality is present; he notes that sometimes he makes a mistake that needs to be fixed, and he shows his pleasure with his baking and with the satisfaction of his customers. On the last page, he leaves for the night, eating a slice of pizza. An appealing, informative book about one of America'a favorite foods. --Carolyn Jenks, Oyster River Elementary School, Durham, NHBook Details
