School Library Journal

Gr 4 Up-- A slim volume that describes and illustrates 12 of the 300 families of flowering plants on earth. All of the plant families described can be easily found in most parts of the U. S. (e.g. buttercup, mint, pea, rose, lily, grass.) The full-page color drawings of each plant show the entire plant life-sized as well as enlargements of the flowers, seeds, stems, and other identifying parts. The accompanying descriptions give further details as to location (fields, marshes, etc.), scents, and other familiar plants in the same family. This is a very attractive book. The text will be useful to older students, and the exquisite illustrations could help younger children identify a variety of wildflowers. --Deirdre R. Murray, Pine Road School, Huntingdon Valley, PA
