School Library Journal

Gr 3-6-- An excellent blend of clear writing, careful illustration, and encouragement of reader participation. Ganeri introduces the diversity of plants, their great historical age, their environments, and their families, as well as the variety of roots, leaves, and seeds. Each topic is given a double-page spread. Numerous full-color drawings and floating paragraphs of text work together, with a few minor discrepancies. The overall aim, to foster observation skills, results in a practical guide with just enough--and not too much--explanation. Simple projects are sprinkled throughout. A pleasure to browse, this title will also be useful for reports. --Sharon Levin, University of Vermont, Burlington
