Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer

A small child invites his stuffed dog to play in this eight-page board book. Intended as an interactive toy book, the cloth head of a finger-puppet puppy pushes through a cut-out circle on each page. The minimal text is written as a conversation between the child and the dog. The text almost rhymes, making it awkward to read in places. The toddler places the puppy in his wagon and pulls it over to a stack of blocks. The stuffed animal knocks the structure down when placed on top of it. The boy pulls the puppy in a cart attached to his tricycle and then places him in a car on his toy train. He calls "All Aboard" and waves good-bye promising to come back to play another day. A good conversation starter for parents to use with toddlers as they explore ways for children to create games to play by themselves. Part of the "Chatterboox" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
