Purpose:The purpose is to provide information on the enduring issues of the nursing profession as well as the contemporary hot topics facing nursing. The editor believes that by combining these two major topic areas, the book fills an unmet need.
Audience:This book was designed as a primary text for a baccalaureate issues course, but it could also be used by graduate students and practicing professionals.
Features:The 23 chapters are divided into five sections covering furthering the profession, workforce issues, legal and ethical issues, and professional power. The editor contributed 14 chapters and guest contributors developed the remaining chapters. Each chapter begins with an overview of an issue. "Discussion Points" and "Consider" features are interspersed in each chapter to promote critical thinking and dialogue related to the chapter issue. One research study is provided in each chapter with further discussion questions at the end of the chapter. Faculty support materials are also available, including PowerPoint bank, instructor's manual, and test bank.
